Kawra, means Nautilus shell, in the Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect of the Top Western Torres Strait Islands. Kawra are very rare seashells that live deep in the ocean. You are very lucky if you find one washed up on the shore. In traditional Torres Strait Creation stories during our Bipor Bipor Taim, the first people to arrive on the islands were said to use different shells to travel to the islands’ shores. This piece shows that the Kawra is not just a shell but hold much of our Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge.

Measuring 297mm x 420mm and printed using pigment ink on high resolution, cotton art quality paper, this art piece is an absolute standout. This artwork is presented under white mount board and sealed in plastic packaging. All pieces come with artist statement and Supply Nation certification.

By making this purchase from Zeyawgub Consultancy, you are supporting a 100% Indigenous-owned, female-operated, Supply Nation certified business.
