About

Led by Culture. Guided by Community. Driven by Purpose.
Zeyawgub Consultancy is a 100% Indigenous-owned education consultancy founded by Deborah Belyea, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman from the Samuawgadhalgal (Cassowary Clan) of the Top Western Islands. With roots extending to the community of Bamaga on Cape York Peninsula, Deborah brings with her a deep cultural legacy - one guided by the Zeyawgub, the Southern Wind, a powerful ancestral force that inspires her life and work.
At Zeyawgub, we do more than deliver cultural capability training - we walk alongside educators, leaders, and communities to create meaningful change.
Deborah’s practice is grounded in over 20 years of experience in remote, regional, and online education, paired with academic excellence in Indigenous Studies and Visual Arts. Every workshop, curriculum resource, and advisory service is infused with authentic Torres Strait Islander perspectives, delivered with cultural sensitivity, responsiveness, and care.

Our Mission
Deborah works in alignment with traditional Torres Strait protocols, guided continuously by her elders. Her mission is to help Australians engage with First Nations cultures in a way that is respectful, informed, and transformational. Her leadership has already shaped national conversations - most recently through her 2024 award-winning NAIDOC Week poster, Urapun Muy (One Fire), and commissions with organisations such as SBS/NITV and the Torres Strait Regional Authority.
